Veldhoven/Netherlands, Oberkochen/Germany, 06 October 2022 – The sensor solution provider HENSOLDT was awarded the "ASML Supplier Recognition Award 2022" for logistics during the ASML Supplier Day 2022 in Veldhoven (Netherlands). This makes HENSOLDT the No. 1 among a total of more than 700 suppliers for the ASML company, itself the market leader in lithography machines for the production of computer chips or integrated circuits. The award is accompanied by a donation of 2500 euros to a charity.

"Being No. 1 among 700 suppliers naturally spurs us on even more to defend this title with a view to the coming year," said Tobias Tenbrink, CFO at HENSOLDT Optronics, who accepted the award in Veldhoven.

The reason for the award to HENSOLDT is the outstanding delivery reliability for the laser analysis unit FFM (Final Focus Metrology), of which the 300th unit since 2012 will still be delivered this year. For the 83 deliveries of the type "FFM Phase 1" and "Phase 2" in 2022, the delivery window of five days was always met. Each FFM unit consists of more than 1,000 individual parts and ensures optimal process control and continuous generation of the extreme ultraviolet light (EUV) within the lithography machine. Without this light, the production of today's most powerful computer chips would not be possible. In addition to the outstanding OTIF (On Time - In Full) performance, HENSOLDT also managed to secure the resources for an ASML-initiated ramp-up of the current generation of EUV lithography equipment, while reducing order lead time by approximately 25 percent.

"HENSOLDT Industrial Commercial and Space Solutions has excellent capabilities in infrared technology. Every day we work with thermal imaging technology for space applications, which is a significant basis for the development of FFM. As a result, we have been able to develop FFM quickly and successfully, making a small but very important contribution to the ASML facility in terms of size," said Tobias Tenbrink following the award ceremony.

About FFM

FFM is a high-precision measuring device in the wavelength range of ten µm. By means of high-speed position sensors, -energy sensors and specially developed -wavefront sensors, performance-critical process parameters of the high-energy laser, as well as shapes and positions of approx. 30µm large tin droplets in a vacuum chamber are determined. Based on the data determined by the FFM, ASML obtains a closed loop control system and uses the information obtained to optimise the performance and accuracy of the laser beam, which has to hit the tin droplets needed to produce the EUV light twice each, thus significantly increasing the efficiency of the light generation.  The FFM functions as the decisive optoelectronic control unit, 50,000 times every second.
