HENSOLDT unveils Bushbaby 100 electro-optical system

Riyadh, 5 February 2024 – HENSOLDT, a global leader in defence and security technologies, is launching the latest addition to its electro-optical portfolio at the World Defense Show. The Bushbaby 100 is an advanced electro-optical system for land-based surveillance, with medium-range multi-sensor surveillance capabilities for a wide range of defence, security and civil applications.

The Bushbaby 100 advantage

The Bushbaby 100 is a compact, rugged and medium-range multi-sensor system for stabilised surveillance and target geo-location. With its lightweight and versatile design, the system is adaptable for various applications, from man-portable tripod setups to mobile deployments and static installations. Offering exceptional value for money, the Bushbaby 100 delivers unparalleled performance at a competitive price point.

"The modern defence and security landscape has shown us that a solution like this is the ideal choice – an advanced, yet flexible solution that can be easily deployed on a range of platforms for agile use," says Chris Haines, Head of Sales of HENSOLDT’s Optronics business in South Africa.

Features

Designed for agile day and night observation applications, the system offers a field-swappable sensor-module for various applications. In standard configuration it provides a clear video feed from a 4K EO sensor along with a compact MWIR sensor and optional laser rangefinder.

Boasting an integrated panoramic daylight EO, medium wavelength infrared (MWIR), and laser range-finder (LRF) capability, this system offers advanced accuracy and versatility in surveillance operations. With a continuous 360-degree azimuth and -45° to +95° elevation range, operators can always maintain complete situational awareness.

The onboard real-time video processor provides image enhancement of all sensors, image fusion of daylight and infrared cameras into a single video stream, image stabilisation, scene steering and target tracking.

Equipped with a gyrostabilised 2-axis system, the Bushbaby 100 ensures steady and reliable performance, even in challenging environments. Built to withstand the harshest conditions, the system meets MIL-STD specifications for ruggedness and durability, ensuring reliable operation in any situation.

Applications and deployment

This electro-optical surveillance system is tailored to meet the needs of various industries and organisations, including security and policing agencies, border control authorities, mining companies, military forces and commercial vehicle operators.

The Bushbaby 100 offers excellent surveillance capabilities for a wide range of deployments, including portable, mobile and fixed installations. Compatible with a variety of mobile platforms, including armoured vehicles, unmanned ground vehicles, patrol vehicles and commercial vehicles, the system provides flexibility and scalability to meet evolving mission requirements. Also ideal for long-term surveillance missions, the system can be installed on stationary masts and structures to provide continuous monitoring of strategic locations.

Modular and future-ready

The system's modular design allows easy customisation and upgrades with additional sensors, with envisioned integration with radar, AI, RF and signals intelligence, providing a comprehensive system solution. Its compact design and fully digital interface enable cost-effective integration across multiple platforms.

Ideal for rapid deployment in tactical situations, the Bushbaby 100 can be easily set up and operated by a small team. The system can be seamlessly integrated into a wide range of military and commercial vehicles, enhancing their surveillance capabilities.
